Background: From France comes Visnews film of radio-telephones installed in trains going into service on the Paris - Lille route from May 31.
The new installation enables passengers to make or receive telephone calls at any time during the journey.
Each compartment of the five 1st. class carriages making up the trains for the new services are linked to the bar by a loudspeaker system. The berman announces incoming calls over the loudspeakers. Passengers making calls are protected from distracting noise by a small sound-insulating shield.
The telephone system is served by eleven transmitter-receiver stations along the route, and the cost of the calls from the train is computed as for calls made from Paris, with a minimum charge for 3 minutes of 325 francs.
