Background: THE UNITED NATIONS PREDICTS THAT THE POPULATION OF THE WORLD WILL HAVE DOUBLED 2005, AND IN 1968 THERE ARE PRESSURES ON LIVING SPACE AND FOOD PRODUCTION. WHAT BETTER SOLUTION TO THE POPULATION EXPLOSION THAN MOVING OUT TO SEA? THERE'S ALREADY A PROJECT FOR ACHIEVING JUST THAT....IT'S CALLED SEA CITY.
A MODEL OF SEA CITY WAS UNVEILED IN LONDON YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) BY THE ARCHITECT, MR HAL MUGGERIDGE, AND THE CIVIL ENGINEERS WHO WORKED WITH HIM ON THE PROJECT.
IT'S DESIGNED TO BE A COMPLETE, SELF-SUPPORTING CITY OF 30,000 PEOPLE 15 MILES OFF THE COAST OF BRITAIN. IF IT'S EVER BUILT....AND IT COULD BE WITH CONTEMPORARY TECHNOLOGY...IT WILL BE BASED ON PILES AND FLOATING CONCRETE PONTOONS, PROTECTED BY A BREAKWATER AND A SPECIALLY DESIGNED WALL.
SEA CITY WILL HAVE A CONTROLLED CLIMATE, BETTER THAN ON SHORE, AND LIVE AS AN INDUSTRIAL COMMUNITY WITH SPECIALIST MARINE ACTIVITIES LIKE FISH FARMING, DESALINISATION AND BOAT BUILDING.
