Background: United Nations Secretary General Kurt Waldheim arrived in New Delhi accompanied by Mrs. Waldheim, on what is supposed to be an effort to find durable peace in the Indian sub-continent after the set back received by the Simla Agreement. He is also expected to have talks on the POWs issue. UN Secretary General was met at the airport by Indian Minister for Power Mr. Rao and later welcomed by Mr. Swaran Singh. Soon after his arrival Mr. and Mrs. Waldheim visited Raj Ghat and placed a Wreathe on the Memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. Later official talks started with the Indian Foreign Minister in the latter's office.
