Background: Mr. Charles Bird, aged 30 years, came from Boston with his wife three years ago for a holiday in Ireland. While in Ireland he became interested in Irish Horses and then in hunting. They both took riding lessons at Irish riding school and went hunting with various Irish packs of bounds. Mr. Bird then purchased all books published on hunting and adults he learned all he known about hunting from books.
He became Joint Master of the famous Royal Meath Foxhounds and is one of the most popular Masters in the country. He really knows a great deal about hunting and bounds. Mr. & Mrs. Bird live at a lovely place called Boctive in Co. Meath. They live very quietly but entertain twice or three times a year on a lavish scale. Mr. Bird is said to be in the "millionaire" class and hunting costs him and wife about GBP6,000 a year. He prefers the cold, damp Irish winter weather to sunshine of California. He came to Ireland on 2 weeks holiday & in 5 years has never gone back to America. His 75 year old father, Charles Bird Sr., a leading New York business man, has to come to Ireland anytime he wants to see his son and daughter-in-law.
