TRANSCRIPT: COMMENTARY: "Newcombe, serving here, won five-thousand dollars for his victory over Rosewall--a fraction of the money he'll win if he beats Jimmy Connors in a challenge match in Las Vegas on April 26th. If Newcombe was looking ahead to that match, you couldn't tell it from his performance against Rosewall. Newcombe destroyed his fellow Australian six-love, six-three. The match was a preliminary to the Denver and Memphis pro-basketball game. Rosewall was never able to break Newcombe's service. Rosewall said: "I played well, but any shot I hit, John Played back." After the match, Newcombe was asked if the Las Vegas encounter would prove once and for all who was the world's greatest tennis player."

(SEQ 4): NEWCOMBE: "It will for a time, anyway. Certainly, I think if I beat Jimmy it probably won't stop him, you know, running around beating his chest. I don't imagine...you know, you can't very well run around saying it's the greatest event. But of course after that we have Wimbledon coming up...and I may beat him in the challenge match, and he may beat me at Wimbledon. But when we go into a Wimbledon tournament, nobody knows if we're both going to get through to the final. And this is a match that I know I want to play in, and I think the public want to see, so it's of interest to have us come together, you know. You guarantee that we're going to be playing together.
