    Background: THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, MR.WILSON DISCUSSED THE COMMONWEALTH PEACE MISSION ON VIETNAM AT NUMBER TEN DOWNING STREET IN LONDON TODAY (FRIDAY) WITH THE U.N.SECRETARY-GENERAL U THANT, AND THE BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY, MR.STEWART.

    ALSO THERE WERE THE PRIME MINISTER OF TRINIDAD, DOCTOR ERIC WILLIAMS, WHO IS A MEMBER OF THE MISSION, AND THE HIGH COMMISSIONERS OF THE THREE COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES INVOLVED, GHANA, NIGERIA AND TRINIDAD.

    BEFORE RETURNING TO NEW YORK TONIGHT, U THANT TOLD REPORTERS WHAT HAD TO BE DONE ABOUT VIETNAM.HE CALLED FOR THE END OF ALL FIGHTING THERE AND THE RECONVENING OF THE 1954 GENEVA CONFERENCE.

    (BRITAIN IS A CO-CHAIRMAN WITH THE SOVIET UNION OF THE CONFERENCE, WHICH ENDED THE SEVEN YEAR WAR IN THE THEN FRENCH INDOCHINA STATES OF VIETNAM, LAOS AND CAMBODIA.THE OTHER POWERS AT THE CONFERENCE WERE THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA THE UNITED STATES, FRANCE, LAOS, CAMBODIA, SOUTH VIETNAM AND THE VIETNAM (NOW NORTH VIETNAM).

    (NORTH VIETNAM HAS NOW STATED THAT THE PRESENT VISIT OF THE BRITISH JUNIOR MINISTER MR.HAROLD DAVIES TO HANOI WOULD NOT LEAD TO A MEETING WITH THE COMMONWEALTH PEACE MISSION.A STATEMENT SAID: ALL RUMOURS ASSOCIATING THE VISIT OF MR.DAVIES WITH AN EVENTUAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE MISSION HEADED BY PRIME MINISTER WILSON ARE "ENTIRELY GROUNDLESS AND ILL-INTENTIONED".MR.DAVIES ARRIVED IN HANOI YESTERDAY WITH THE AIM OF TRYING TO PERSUADE NORTH VIETNAM TO RECEIVE THE COMMONWEALTH MISSION.
