    Background: THE FIRST SHIPMENT OF WHEAT CARRIED UNDER THE UNITED STATES EMERGENCY AID PROGRAMME ARRIVED IN BOMBAY DOCKS YESTERDAY (THURSDAY).

    THE SHIPMENT WAS CARRIED BY THE "FORT HOSKINS" AND COMPRISED A CARGO OF JUST OVER 23,000 TONS OF WHEAT WHICH WILL HELP TO RELIEVE INDIA'S FOOD SHORTAGE. THE FORT HOSKINS IS THE FIRST OF 90 SHIPS WHICH WILL ARRIVE IN INDIAN PORTS BETWEEN FEBRUARY AND MARCH CARRYING GRAIN UNDER THE ACCELERATED SCHEDULE INAUGURATED BY THE INDIAN-AMERICAN AGREEMENT LAST DECEMBER. BY THE AGREEMENT, THE UNITED STATES WILL SUPPLY ONE AND A HALF MILLION TONS OF WHEAT TO INDIA UNDER THE FOOD FOR PEACE PROGRAMME.
