Background: INTRODUCTION: Shoji Oguma of Japan retained his World Boxing Council title for the third time on Tuesday (3 February). He survived cuts over both eyes to beat South Korea's Park Chan-Hee by a majority decision of the three United States judges.

SYNOPSIS: It's round seven in Tokyo's Korakuen Hall. An attack from Oguma, in the white shorts, is soon followed by a fast-punching retaliation from Park Chan-Hee. It was their third championship battle. Park lost the title to Oguma in Seoul last May. In October, the South Korean was unsuccessful in an attempt to win back the title. That was a closely-fought contest.

And now it's the 15th round, and Oguma's dominating with superior power and speed, but failing to follow up with strong punches. The challenger kept attacking throughout the 15-round bout, but lacked the power to shake Oguma.

The cuts over his eyes didn't slow down the champion. He kept on waiting for the Korean to attack, and then scored with rights and lefts to the body and face. In this final round, Park complained bitterly to his corner that Oguma had been leading with his head.

Japan's Shoji Oguma kept his flyweight title against a strong challenge, his strength slowing down Park Chan-Hee's offensive in the last few rounds.
