Background: The South African Sprinbok polo team defeated the Uruguayan team 13-4 on Sunday (11 November), in a match at Montevideo's Carrasco Club. In their first match against the Uruguayans on Saturday (10 November), the South African drew 8-all.
The matches were to have been part of a three-way series between South Africa, Uruguay and Argentina - but Argentina withdrew in line with its policy not to play sport against South Africa because of that country's apartheid policy.
The South African Springbok team included members of the South African National polo team.
About 5,000 spectators watched the events.
