Background: The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh paid a visit to the Royal Tournament at Earls Court yesterday, June 11th, taking with them Princess Anne and two young friends who join her in morning lessons at Buckingham Palace.
After walking through a guard formed of performers at the tournament, and after the Duke had inspected a guard of honour of the Royal Navy, the Grenadier Guards and the RAF, the royal party watched several events. These included the traditional musical ride on horseback and the Navy's gun competitions.
Yesterday, Senior Aircraftsman Michael Tatlow won the King's Cup in competition with eight Army riders.Last weekend he won the other major individual trophy of the jumping contests, the Prince of Wales Cup. Neither has previously been won by an airman.
