    TRANSCRIPT: INTERVIEWER: "Well I find myself in distinguished company. I would like to introduce George Harrison M.B.E."



    GEORGE HARRISON: "Hullo."



    INTERVIEWER: "John Lennon M.B.E."



    JOHN LENNON: "Hullo."



    INTERVIEWER: "Ringo Starr M.B.E."



    RINGO STARR: (LAUGHS)"



    INTERVIEWER: "and Paul McCartney M.B.E."



    PAUL McCARTNEY: "How do you do."



    INTERVIEWER: "Well, one of the questions to all you gentlemen, and I must say gentlemen now. How do you feel, John, about having the M.B.E."



    JOHN LENNON: "I feel great, you know."



    INTERVIEWER: "Were you terribly surprised?"



    JOHN LENNON: "Yes, you know. es, we were most surprised."



    INTERVIEWER: "George."



    GEORGE HARRISON: "Yeah?"



    INTERVIEWER: "How did you feel when you heard you had been awarded the M.B.E.?"



    GEORGE HARRISON: "I didn't believe it really, at first. But when they sent me all the bits of paper saying that, and when I had read it in the papers, you have to believe it. Its great you know. I Didn't expect it at all you know. Ringo hasn't told his mum yet."



    INTERVIEWER: "Is it true that you haven't told your mother about this yet?"



    RINGO STARR: "No. She will read about it today, you know."



    INTERVIEWER: "Were you surprised at all?"



    RINGO STARR: "Yes, I was."



    INTERVIEWER: "when did you first know you had been awarded the M.B.E.?"



    RINGO STARR: "Two days ago. We had the forms six weeks ago, but we did not know we had actually git is until two days ago."



    INTERVIEWER: "Did the forms come with the fan mail, or did it come separately?"



    RINGO STARR: "We thought they were our call-up papers. (LAUGHTER) I shouldn't use that one, its not mine. It said 'If you would like to have na M.B.E. sign here'. We signed. Richard Starkey, you know. Not Ringo."



    PAUL McCARTNEY: "Send two bottle tops, and you have got it."



    INTERVIEWER: "Pail, how do you react to having this award?"



    PAUL McCARTNEY: "I think its great. You can't say anything about it."



    INTERVIEWER: "Do you think you deserve an award like the M.B.E.?"



    PAUL McCARTNEY: "Well, I don't know, you know, What dies it matter? We got it, you know."



    INTERVIEWER: "You've got a medal, the M.B.E. Where are you going to wear it?"



    (LAUGHTER)



    RINGO STARR: "I want it on a chain so that you can wear it around your neck,. If it was on a pin, it would make a mess of all your suits."

    Background: The Beatles -- Britain's top "pop" singing group -- today (Saturday) became members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.Their names are among about 1,800 people recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services rendered to the nation.

    The citation for the quartet -- George Harrison 22, John Lennon, 24 Paul McCartney 23, and Ringo Starr 24 -- consisted of only four words: "Member of the beatles".

    At Twickenham film studios today the Beatles met the press.
