Background: A West Australian jockey trainer is using electronic equipment like a walkie-talkie in his training sessions.
Mr. Frank Flannery of Perth said trainee jockeys felt more confident receiving instruction on an earphone and they could concentrate better on what they were doing.
Mr. Flannery, a leading jockey for 33 years who has been training for the past six years, said he noticed his jockeys were able to correct their own mistakes better, while he watched them from a distance.
He felt the method had been effective in helping young jockeys restore their confidence. He added that it was one of his trainees who lost confidence in himself that inspired him to use the walkie-talkie idea.
