Background: Sparks flew on the court when Romanian tennis star Illie Nastase unleashed a performance which outraged many watchers during the World Doubles Tennis Championships in London, England. Nastase's curses and arguments with the umpire and linesmen came during a second day match in which he and British Partner Buster Mottram were beaten 7-6 3-6 7-6 7-6 by Tom Okker of the Netherlands and Wojtek Fibak of Poland. The defeat ended their chances of reaching the semi finals of the two-group, round robin competition. Nastase was told by tournament director John MacDonald to 'clean up his act' and play tennis. In another match, South Africans Bob Hewitt and Frew McMillan improved their chances.

SYNOPSIS: Here Smid of Czechoslovakia serves, but although this point was to be his, he and his partner Peter Fleming of the United States were to lose this first set, and the match.

This serve by McMillan was more characteristic of the match, with Fleming failing to return.

McMillan and Hewitt showed their tight teamwork in this rally, with Hewitt delivering the telling shot.

In the final game, McMillan served with the score at 40-30. And although the coup de grace was delayed by a temporary setback for the South Africans, their victory was not long in coming. In this rally, Hewitt's shot gains the advantage, which McMillan exploits to give the South African pair the match 6-4 2-6 6-4 6-4, and they also enhanced their standing in the competition.
