Background: The Moroccan soccer squad -- the first African team to qualify if the World Cup Football Competition -- arrived in Mexico City on Friday (May 15) and spent the following afternoon touring the Aztec stadium.

Also on Saturday's agenda was a tour of the lavish training quarters of the Mexican team, the Mexican Football Federation Building, and the Olympic stadium.

Morocco qualified for their place in Mexico after eliminating Tunisia and Senegal in knock-out rounds before qualifying ahead of Sudan and Nigeria. It took them three games to get the better of Senegal and against Tunisia the two teams managed three successive draws -- Morocco ultimately won on the toss of a coin.

Although Morocco rank with Israel and El Salvador as the underdogs of the competition, their record is far from that of a defeated team. In recent games they have defeated Italy (1-0), Nigeria (2-1) and Sudan (3-0). Another success, after the defeat of Italy was a victory over another World Cup qualifying team, Bulgaria, who hey downed 3-0.

During their stay in Mexico, Morocco will be subject to the same tight security as all other World Cup qualifiers. They are being closely guarded by uniformed and plain-clothed policemen wherever they travel
