REPORTER: "How does he do it?"

SUMMERHAYES: "Well he does it by smelling the rubber of the ball. He knows its a golf ball...he won't bring a tennis ball back on anything also. If it doesn't have a cover on it then he wont bring it back.

REPORTER: "How did you train him?"

SUMMERHAYES: "That's a little secret. But my first work with him was teach him how to pick them, and then pick them up and not bite them. You wont find any teeth marks on any of the balls. My son took him down to Alpine once and he picked up 112 in a couple of hours. But he usually averages about 35 to 50 an hour nd you can go back there after the day to the same place and pick up a lot of balls...its amazing."

REPORTER: "Does he pick up stray balls on the fairway?"

SUMMERHAYES:"No he doesn't. He knows that fairways are out of bounds. I've taken him a few times with me to play and he knows where the balls are that he is supposed to hunt. He doesn't pick them up in the fairway.
