Background: IN JOVIAL MOOD, BRITAIN'S PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAROLD MACMILLAN PUT WORLD PROBLEMS ASIDE DURING A BREAK IN HIS BAHAMAS TALKS WITH PRESIDENT NASSAU ON TUESDAY NIGHT.

THE PREMIER LOOKED PLEASED -- BUT A BIT BEWILDERED BY THE THROBBING CALYPSO MUSIC AND DANCING GIRLS -- AS HE ARRIVED AT THE PARTY WITH LORD HOME, BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY, AND STRODE GINGERLY ACROSS THE WHITE SANDS.

HE STOPPED FIRST TO INSPECT THE BARBECUE MEAL OF STEAK, CHICKEN AND CRAYFISH. THEN HE SAT AT A TRESTLE TABLE FRINGING THE OCEAN FOR A SNACK AND A POTPOURRI OF LOCAL SONGS WHILE THE BAND STRUCK UP "MACK THE KNIFE."
WHEN THE CALYPSO DANCERS CAME ON, HE BANGED THE TABLE AND SHOUTED, "HOORAH." THE DANCERS, DRESSED IN COSTUMES OF OLD NASSAU, PERFORMED A NOISY ADAGIO-STYLE ROUTINE CALLED "STONE COLD DEAD IN THE MARKET."
A CALYPSO SINGER CHANTED: "WELCOME, WELCOME, MACMILLAN AND KENNEDY. YOUR VISIT TO NASSAU WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY." MR. MACMILLAN LAUGHED AND APPLAUDED WHEN IT FINISHED, AND WAS GIVEN A COPY OF THE SONG-SHEET AS A SOUVENIR.

THE BRITISH STATESMAN LATER BANTERED WITH CAMERAMEN, JOSTLING TO TAKE PICTURES, JOKED WITH POLICE GUARDS, THEN DROVE OFF FOR A NIGHT'S SLEEP BEFORE RESUMING HIS CRUCIAL TALKS NEXT DAY WITH PRESIDENT KENNEDY.
