Background: INTRODUCTION: Guinea's national team defeated Ghana's Black Stars by two nil during a play-off match for the World Cup qualifying series in Togo this week (16 January).
SYNOPSIS: Ghana, playing from right to left, kicked off in the Eyadema Stadium in Lome. It was the qualifying match for the next step in the World Cup series.
But Guinea proved the stronger side and Ali Keita scored the first goal in the fourth minute through a goalmouth scramble.
The early goal upset the black Stars. From that moment, the pattern was set for the two teams. While the Black Stars fought desperately to find the equaliser, the Guineans resorted to slow, deliberate football which made scoring extremely difficult. While Ghana kept missing badly upfront, the Guineans kept the game in mid-field looking for the vulnerable spots of their opponents.
Up to the 28th minute the Ghanaians played reasonably well. But when steadiness in front of the goal could have paid dividends, they threw many chances away.
Ghana came back on the attack but Guinea quickly gained possession. At the end of the first half Guinea clinched victory with a second goal by Papa Camera. It was the lasting the match and puts Guinea into the next stage of the competition when the team will meet Togo.
