Background: Development of the Senegal River and rail links between the two countries have been discussed during a meeting between the Mali President, Colonel Mouses Traore, and Senegal's Prime Minster, Mr. Abdou Diouf.
Mr. Diouf arrived in Bamako, Mali, last weekend on a three-day goodwill visit, shown in this official film.
He was met at Bamako airport by Mali's Finance Minister, Mr. Baba Diarra, Government ministers and members of the diplomatic corps. He reviewed a guard of honour of paratroops.
Later, Dr. Diouf attended top-level talks with Chief of State, Colonel Traore.
Among matters brought up was the recently established organisation for development of the senegal River between Senegal, Mali and Mauritania. The possibility of building dams on the river was raised.
Another matter of vital importance to the two countries that was discussed was the question of rail transport linking them.
