SYNOPSIS: A big rally was held in Beirut on Friday to commemorate the deaths of three commandos of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, killed in a raid on the town of Kiryat Shmoneh, near Lebanon, a year ago. Eighteen Israelis including eight children died in the raid.
Among speakers at the rally was a priest of the Chiah community, Sheikh Mohammed Yakoub. He told the assembly, in a Beirut theatre, that Palestinians should not live in fear and should reconquer their land by armed struggle. It was one of a series of suicide attacks by Palestinian commandos during the year.
Another speaker at the rally was Mr. Abu Abbas, a spokesman for the General Command of the Popular Front. He told the audience to reject all surrender solutions to the Palestinian question. He said armed struggle was the only way of liberating Palestine.
