Background: It's not billed as a "sister Cities" relationship, but a thousand South Vietnamese refugees are glad there a lot of towns named "Columbus" in the United States. Soldiers from the U.S. 34th General Support Group (Aircraft Maintenance and Supply), about fifty miles north of Saigon at Phu Loi, have established and are maintaining a refugee camp they have named Camp Columbus. Eighteen cities named Columbus in the United States are contributing large quantities of food, clothing, toys and household necessities to the thousand refugees who call Camp Columbus home. The Chaplain of the 34th Group takes charge of the shipments and distributes them to the refugees with the help of the soldiers. Each time a jeep load of supplies arrives, it's like Christmas all over again. Many of the refugees are children, whose appreciation of the gifts makes the giving very worthwhile for the people from all of the cities named Columbus.
