Background: After a strenuous day in which the Queen visited six Ontario cities, her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh attended July 2 a performance of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" in stratford, Ontario, the Festival city of the same name as Shakespeare's birthplace.

After the play, the Queen and the Duke went back-stage to meet the actors- among them Irene Worth, the well-known American-born British actress. Outside the theatre the crowd gave the Royal visitors a thunderous ovation, while overhead fireworks flashed in a colourful display.

On the 6 July the Queen and Duke were to enter the United States for their visit too Chicago.
