Background: Shortly after arriving at Moscow Airport for his 18-day visit to the Soviet Union, President Nasser of the United Arab Republic had preliminary discussions with Premier Khruschov, President Voroshilov and other Soviet Government and Communist Party officials.
At the airport the Egyptian-Syrian President was met by crowds of Egyptian students chanting, "Hail, leader of the Arab world" and Russian Pioneers---junior members of the Communist movement-----who rushed up to him with posies of fresh flowers.
President Voroshilov headed the official Government welcoming party. The British and French Ambassadors---whose countries have no direct diplomatic relations with Egypt----were no present at the airport, and neither was the Israeli Ambassador.
The day after his arrival, President Nasser toured Moscow sight-seeing. In the evening he and his party were guests of honour at a special performance of the ballet "Swan Lake".
May Day saw the leader of the United Arab Republic reviewing the parade in Red Square, with the leaders of the Russian peoples. The remainder of May 1st was spent touring the Kremlin, inspecting the great armoury and other landmarks and places of interest there.
Most of the Egyptian party's visit will entail tours of military installations and educational and cultural institutions throughout Russia.
