Background: The Guinea Government has been giving full publicity to those involved in the abortive invasion of the country last November.

An exhibition of photographs has been mounted in the National Assembly Building in Conakry of the 92 Africans condemned to death by Assembly members sitting as the Supreme Revolutionary Tribunal. The Assembly also sentenced 72 people to hard labour imprisonment for life. They include the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Conakry two West Germans, three Frenchmen and some 10 Lebanese.

Those pictures of the National Assembly exhibition and the Tribunal in session were obtained by an East German television crew.

Radio Conakry has described as "a carnival" the execution of 58 of the Africans condemned to death. On Sunday (25 Jan), the radio urged Guineans to organise rejoicing and revolutionary marches to celebrate their "victory over imperialism". The radio said the execution took place in various parts of the country on Monday morning.

The Pope and the West German Government have appealed to President Toure to show clemency to all the accused.

The Aachen, West Germany, prayers were said in Churches on Sunday for the safe return of Adolf Marx, one of the two West Germans sentenced to hard labour for life. His parents said the life sentence was 'inconceivable', and his mother, Frau Leni Marx, told reporters: "Please don't ask us. We are completely finished".

The wife of the other West German, Hermann Seibold, said that Guinea's refusal to hand over her husband's body, former vocational school director, was proof that he did not commit suicide as had been claimed. Frau Seibold recently charged that her husband had been beaten to death in prison.
