Background: Dr. Linus Pauling, the American scientist and veteran campaigner for world-wide peace, received the Lenin International Peace Prize at a ceremony in Washington on Monday (15 June).
The award was presented by the Soviet academic Dmitry Skobeltsyn in a ceremony at the Russian Embassy in the capitol.
Dr. Pauling, now 69 and Professor of Chemistry and Stanford University in California, had already received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1963 and holds dozens of awards for his scientific work including the Nobel Prize for Chemistry awarded to him in 1954.
