Background: Rumania's President Nicolae Ceausescu arrived in Mexico City on Saturday afternoon (7 June) to begin four days of official talks with Mexican leaders. He was accompanied by his wife and several senior Rumanian officials, including Foreign Minister George Macovescu.
President Ceausescu was greeted at the airport by his Mexican counterpart, President Luis Echeverria with full ceremonial honours.
During the Rumina leader's visit, the two Presidents are expected to sign a declaration calling for general world disarmament, continued efforts to secure world peace and higher prices for raw materials. They will also conclude an agreement for scientific, technological, economic and tourism co-operation.
President Ceausescu's visit to Mexico comes as the second of his current official overseas visits. Before arriving in Mexico, he held discussions with Brazilian leaders culmination with the signing of agreements covering trade, technical co-operation and maritime transportation.
