Background: Fatma Barnawi, a member of Fateh, has just arrived in Beirut after ten years in an Israeli prison. She was found guilty of terrorist activities, but was held in what she described as a "propaganda" prison-one which the Israeli authorities allowed the International Red Cross and other international agencies inspect frequently. She said treatment in these prisons was better than in others. There was no physical torture, although Palestinian detainees were constantly subjected to verbal abuse and had less privileges than Israeli prisoners. Fatma, the first member of "Fateh" to be erased from prison, said there were 28 others left behind in her prison.
