REPORTER: "How do you feel about the situation of the Muzorewa government at the moment?"

TAMBO: "Well, I think it's doomed to collapse."

REPORTER: "Why do you say that?"

TAMBO: "Because it is just a creation of Smith."

REPORTER: "You think it has no credibility at all, inside the country?"

TAMBO: "Not any more credibility than Smith himself has had in the country."

REPORTER: "Today, there were reports of Rhodesian raids on the outskirts of Lusaka on Patriotic Front buildings. How do you feel when you hear news of a black-led government having a part in that sort of activity?"

TAMBO: "Well, I don't think the government is black-led at all. I think Muzorewa is being led. He is told what to do. He takes no decision. He can't. The country is not being run by him. It is run by the people who have been running the country all the time. It's Smith there. It's them that take the decision, Peter Walls who has been there and his army. Muzorewa doesn't rule anything. There is no black government camouflaged behind the black skin."

REPORTER: "How long would it take to get rid of that, if that is presumably what you think should be done?"

TAMBO: "Well, I think it is a matter of time, really. I don't think there is any future in that arrangement. I don't think, I can't imagine that so many thousands of Zimbabweans have laid their lives just to have Smith all over again."

Background: The collapse of the Zimbabwe Rhodesian government of Bishop Abel Muzorewa has been predicted by the President of the African National Congress of South Africa, Oliver Tambo. He claims it is not a "black government" but merely a government run by the same white politicians as before.

SYNOPSIS: Mr. Tambo criticised the new Zimbabwe Rhodesian government during a one-day conference in London on Tuesday (26 June) to mark the twentieth anniversary of the foundation of the anti-apartheid movement.

The movement has pushed for boycotts of South African exports and for that country's international isolation. Among the British observers was the former Labour Secretary of State of Health and Social Security, Mr. David Ennals.

At the conference, Visnews reporter Brendan Farrow sought further comments from Mr. Tambo on the Zimbabwe Rhodesian administration....
