Background: After a private swearing-in ceremony in Singapore's City Council Chamber, VISNEWS June 6 filmed Premier Lee Kuan Yew as he introduced newly elected members of his Cabinet at a press conference.
Present at the swearing-in ceremony was Sir William Goode, till recently Governor and now the Yang Di-Pertuan (Head of State). On leaving after the ceremony Sir William congratulated Premier Yew and offered his best wishes "and goof fortune in discharging your responsibilities."
Singapore's first Government under the Home-Rule Constitution - under which Singapore becomes fully self governing, with Britain retaining responsibility for external defence and foreign affairs - are all members of the Peoples Action Party, so overwhelmingly successful at the recent general elections.
The Cabinet consists of;
Premier Lee Kuan Yew; Deputy Premier Toh Chin Chye; Minister for National Development Ong Eng Guan; Minister for Finance Goh Keng Swee; Labour and Law Minister K.M. Byrne; Cultural Ministers S. Rajaratnam; Education Minister Yong Nyuk Lin; Home Affairs Minister Ong Pang Boon and Minister of Health Ahmed Ibrahim.
After the press conference Premier Lee Kuang Yew led his Ministers outside the building and introduced them to a cheering crowd.
