Background: Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta this afternoon opened the first East African Womens' Seminar. Jomo Kenyatta said there were great plans for the women of East Africa, the first being the formation of a women's battalion in the new Kenya Army. He also said that women were required to train themselves for there not being a woman member of the General Assembly as the women had not put forward a candidate for one of the seats available. He stated that the Government would give all the support and assistance necessary for women to take advantage of overseas scholarships. He appealed to the education women of the country to associate with the uneducated to show them the way was open for women to take a leading part in the future of the country.
