    Background: Five well-known international jockeys competed in an invitation horse race in tokyo on Saturday (2 shots) as part of celebrations marking the 20th birthday of the Japan Racing Association.

    Jimmy Lindley of Britain, Jean Cruguet of France, Edward Maple of the ??? United states, Soonchoo Sawarngarm of Thailand and Vladimirov Yuri Vladimirovish of the Soviet Union were among the 12 riders in the event.

    But they were out-ridden by the local jockeys, who took all three plseinge.

    Hama-Eight, a four-year-old ridden by Masuzawa, won the race by two lengths from Civil-Reina, ridden by Ojima. Third was Towa-Hope ridden by Kage.

    Of the foreign guest riders, Jean Cruguet came closest to a place. He finished fourth.

    The purse for the race was GBP 21,700 sterling (about 54,000 U.S. dollars) -- half of it going to the winner.

    SYNOPSIS: The Keibajo race course in Tokyo. On Saturday, the big event was an international invitation horse race marking the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Japan Racing Association. The race was for three-year-olds and over.
