    ITS STUDENT PILOT, 22-YEAR-OLD MUNETAKA OKAMIYA, HAD TO PEDAL FURIOUSLY. A FOURTH YEAR AERONAUTICS ENGINEER, HE HAD UNDERGONE SIX MONTHS VIGOROUS TRAINING IN CYCLING AND RUNNING.

    THE PROPELLOR-DRIVEN PLANE; THE LINNET, WAS DESIGNED BY PROFESSOR HIDEMASA KIMURA OF NIHON UNIVERSITY AND A GROUP OF HIS STUDENTS.

    THE AIRCRAFT WAS FIRST TESTED AT THE SAME AIRPORT ON FEB 20. IT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. IT TOOK THE PROFESSOR AND HIS STUDENTS THREE YEARS TO PREPARE THE AIRCRAFT.
