Background: A host of the great soccer stars of recent years came out of retirement last night (7 October) for the opening game of the World Indoor Football Championship in London.
The opening game of the series featured teams from London and Toronto but soccer fans who crowded the Sobell sports centre in London went to see the great names of the past decade in action.
London included players like Jimmy Greaves, Roger Hunt and George Cohen from the 1966 World Cup-winning England squad, plus former England star George Eastham and Scotland's Denis Law.
Toronto was even more star-studded, including Jair, Amarildo and Carlos Alberto of Brazil, Eusebio of Portugal and Popovic of Yugoslavia.
The Toronto team ran out eventual winners 13-12 in a feast of action and fine goals.
The World Championships continue until mid-November and will be played in such venues as London, Naples, New York, Toronto and Munich.
SYNOPSIS: The World Indoor Football Championship opens in London ... bringing a host of former soccer stars back into action. Playing for London, Denis Law hits a post.
London are playing a Toronto team filled with former stars like Eusebio, Jair and Amarildo. Here, Seculareo of Yugoslavia scores.
A penalty for London ... but Brabook's shot is saved.
Toronto hit back and score through Jair, of Brazil ... and Toronto lead three-one.
And Toronto go further ahead ... Eusebio scores from the penalty spot.
A near miss this time as Eusebio just fails to find the net. But at half time, Tornto lead seven - two.
The second half, and in this star-studded tournament, former England star George Eastham combines with Scotland's Denis Law to score for London.
Another London attack ... and this time it's Jimmy Greaves who poaches another goal to make the score eight - four.
It's a goal-feast for the fans as London reduce the deficit through Roger Morgan.
With the scores level now, Eusebio scores brilliantly to put Toronto ahead.
And further ahead with a fine goal by Jair.
In the dying minutes of the game, London pull back another goal -- scored by former England star Roeger Hunt ... but Toronto take the first game in the World Indoor Championship by thirteen - twelve.
