    THE ENTRANTS INCLUDED YACHTS FROM ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, BRITAIN, FRANCE, GERMANY, HOLLAND, THE UNITED STATES AND URUGUAY. THEY WERE EXPECTED TO REACH RIO IN FROM NINE TO TWELVE DAYS.

    TODAY (TUESDAY) THE AMERICAN KETCH "ONDINE" WAS REPORTED IN THE LEAD OFF THE BRAZILIAN COAST. THE "ONDINE", OWNED BY HER SKIPPER SUMMER A. LONG, OF THE LARCHMENT YACHT CLUB, WAS A STRONG FAVOURITE TO WIN THE EIGHTH RACE OF THE SERIES.

    THE 73-FEET LONG "ONDINE" WAS LEADING BY AN HOUR AND A HALF FROM THE DUTCH VESSEL "STORM VOGEL", SKIPPERED BY 68-YEAR OLD CORNELIUS BRUYNZEEL.

    THE ARGENTINE YAWL "JUANA" WAS SAILING IN THIRD POSITION.
