Background: Abdul Azzis Zuabi, on Wednesday(30 June), became the first Arab ever appointed to the rank of Deputy Minister in the Israeli government. Active in public life for twenty years, 45-year-old Mr. Zuabi was named Deputy Minister of Health. Under Victor Shem-Tov, Minister of Health, Mr. Zuabi will be working at the Health Ministry in Jerusalem.
The only other Arab to reach a similar standing in Israeli public life is the Deputy Speaker of the House, Zeif Eldin Alzuabi, a cousin of Mr. Zuabi.
Following a briefing from the Minister of Health on Thursday, Mr. Zuabi toured the nearby Central Laboratories, where preparations are being completed to meet any cholera threat -- should the virus again be imported from abroad.
