Background: The West German team maintained its substantial lead in the Isle of ??? Golden Jubilee Six Day Trial motor cycle test after the fifth day on Friday (17 October).
The West Germans have received only 104.6 penalty points and this gives them a commanding lead over their nearest rivals - Ital who have 1,641.1 penalty points.
Czechoslovakia h???ld third place with 2,530.9 penalty points.
At this stage the West Germans have mortgage on the International Trophy competition which marks the fiftieth anniversary of the famous Six Day Trial.
Italy leads the chase for the Silver Vase trophy with 2,212.2 points and the West Germans are currently placed second in this event with 3,079.8 points.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations have been marred by the death of American competitor Bren ???ran. The U.S. rider was found dead by his machine on Monday on a section of the course where the riders have to negotiate a disused railway track.
Monday's opening session also brought criticism from organising officials. One accused the competitors of "riding like lunatics".
The Six Day event finished on Saturday (18 October). Competitors are required to be excellent mechanics and tacticians to stand any chance of winning the event.
A rider must take complete responsibility for his machine after the start on the first day. He is penalised if it operates faultily and is disqualified if he receives help from mechanics.
