Background: The 500-ton PINTA out of Rotterdam sunk the night of May 7th after being hit amidships by the freighter CITY OF PERTH, 7500-tons.Eleven persons aboard the Dutch ship were picked up the CITY OF PERTH.No casualties were reported.An investigation into the mishap is underway.There is still no explanation for the collision which took place during clear weather with visibility reported at 15-miles.The accident took place 35-miles south of the New York Battery at the lower point of Manhattan Island.The Dutch ship went down shortly after the accident.The British ship, with a damaged bow, went into Hoboken, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City.
