Background: Senegal has won the tenth African Men's Basketball Championships for the second time in succession. Senegal beat the Ivory Coast 96 points to ninety.

SYNOPSIS: Senegal, playing left to right in the dark shorts, was forced to keep up a strong attack to win the title from Ivory Coast. The Championship is held every two years, and this match was a repeat of the last final, played in Senegal in 1978. That year Senegal on their home ground had an easier win, defeating Ivory Coast 103 points to 72. This year Morocco, the host country, won third place by defeating Algeria 97 points to 83. In the fist half of the game Senegal forged ahead, to have a 44 to 34 point lead over Ivory Coast. But a late rally by Ivory Coast resulted in a close finish and an exciting match for the spectators.

In the semi-finals Senegal defeated Nigeria 87-points to 69 and Ivory Coast beat Morocco 96 to 72.
