Background: INTRODUCTION: Rumania's gymnastic star Nadia Comaneci, the triple gold medal winner at the Montreal Olympics last year, out-scored the rest of the field in an international competition in London, England, on Saturday (16 April). But she was appearing only as a guest competitor, and couldn't claim the ladies title. That went to fellow-Rumanian, sixteen-year-old defending champion Teodora Ungureanu. Hungry's Marta Egervari took second place.
SYNOPSIS: Competitors from ten nations performed in the 'Champions All' contest, organised by a British newspaper. Sakiko Noazawa of Japan, a relative newcomer, finished in eighth place.
Miss Ungureanu, defending the crown she won in last year's Champions All. Her performance on the horse earned her valuable 9.45 points to go towards her eventual winning total of 38.65.
Thirteen-year-old Elena Davydova of the Soviet Union, being groomed for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, ended up in fourth place despite a bad landing from the high bars.
Marta Egervari working her way into second place with 9.65 points on the high bars, and an overall total of 38.15.
Miss Ungureanu again -- and a brilliant 9.70 on the beam.
The star turn of the evening -- 15-year-old Miss comaneci's near-flawless guest appearance. The high bars earned her 9.75 in an overall score of 39.10.
