    THE FAMOUS CONFEDERATE OFFICER'S ANCESTORS AND FARM NOT FAR FROM PORTDOWN, IN NORTHERN IRELAND. YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) A PLAQUE WAS UNVEILED TO GENERAL TO GENERAL JACKSON'S MEMORY, BY THE UNITED STATES CONSUL IN NORTHERN IRELAND, MR. NEIL MCMANUS.

    THE PLAQUE WAS ERECTED ON A WALL, WHICH IS THE ONLY REMAINING PORTION OF THE FARMHOUSE WHERE GENERAL JACKSON'S FAMILY ONCE LIVED. THE BUILDING WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE IN 1922 DURING THE IRISH "TROUBLES". MR. AND MRS. ERIC JACKSON, WHO ARE DIRECT DESCENDANTS OF THE GENERAL, WERE AT THE CEREMONY.

    AFTER THE UNVEILING BY MR. MCMANUS, THE DUKE OF ABERCORN GAVE SOME OF THE DETAILS CONCERNING THE JACKSON FAMILY AND THE FARM ON WHICH THEY LIVED.

    BY COINCIDENCE, GENERAL ULYSSES S. GRANT, THE FEDERAL COMMANDER AND LATER PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.. WAS ALSO AN ULSTERMAN. HIS FAMILY CAME FROM DERGINA, NOT FAR FROM THE JACKSON FARM.
