Background: Britain's Foreign Secretary, Anthony Crosland, arrived in Tokyo on Sunday (9 May) for a three-day official visit.
Mr. Crosland, accompanied by his wife, arrived at Haneda Airport on board a special Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft after a six-day official visit to The People's Republic of China. Mr. Crosland was greeted by Japanese Foreign Minister Kiichi Miyazawa and members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Japan.
During his stay in Japan, Mr. Crosland will have a series of meetings with his Japanese counterpart, Mr. Miyazawa. He is also expected to meet Prime Minister Takeo Miki and Japan's Minister of International Trade and Industry, Toshio Komoto.
Various bilateral issues will be discussed during these meetings, but the chief topic will most likely be Britain's curbs on Japanese exports of electronic goods and cars. Mr. Crosland may also brief Mr. Miyazawa on his recent trip to China.
Mr. Crosland is expected to give a press conference on Tuesday (11 May) before leaving for Britain.
