Background: President Etienne Eyadema of Togo arrived in Kinshasa on Saturday (2 September) for a 48-hour visit to the Zaire Republic. The Togo President was greeted at the Airport by President Mobutu Sess Seko of Zaire, and by a large crowd carrying welcoming banners.
President Eyadema' visit to Zaire comes at a time of increased contacts between the two African nations.
Lees than a fortnight before President Eyadama arrived, a group of twelve Togo journalists reached Kinshasa to begin an advanced training course in television.
SYNOPSIS: Arriving at Kinshasa from Togo last week - an airliner bringing to Zaire Togo's President Etienne Eyadema. Zaire's President Mobutu Sese Seko was at the airport to greet his guest.
A warm welcome too from the people of Zaire - who turned up in large numbers to greet President Eyadema. Senior officials of the Zaire Government, and members of the diplomatic corps were introduced to President Eyadema by his host. President Eyadema's stay in Zaire lasted forty-eight hours, and was described in both capitals as a "friendly" visit. However, a Togo delegation which accompanied the President included the Ministers of the Interior and Economic Affairs, and these two men had talks in Kinshasa with their Zaire counterparts. As President Eyadema and President Mobutu Sese Seko moved towards the airport terminal they were applauded by the large crowd.
The visit was at the invitation of President Mobutu Sess Seko and was the second by Presidents Eyadema to Kinshasa thus year. President Eyadama flew home on Monday.
