Background: WITH THE ABSENCE OF TWO OF THEIR KEY DEFENDERS, F.A. CUP SEMI-FINALISTS WEST BROMWICH ALBION WERE NO MATCH TODAY (SATURDAY) FOR THE LIVELY NOTTINGHAM FOREST TEAM. NOTTS TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE OF ALBION'S LOSS OF DOUG FRASER AND JOHN KAYE, BOTH OUT WITH INJURIES, AND EASILY OUTCLASSED THE CUP-HOLDERS TO TAKE A 3-NIL VICTORY.

COLIN HALL, A STAND-IN FOR THE INJURED JOE BAKER, PUT NOTTINGHAM FOREST IN FRONT IN THE TENTH MINUTE OF THE GAME WHEN HE HEADED IN A PENALTY. FORM THEN ON, THE HOME TEAM WAS ABLE TO DICTATE THE GAME.

ALBION'S DEFENCE WAS SHAKY AND THEY HAD NO-ONE TO MATCH THE INDUSTRY OF NOTTINGHAM FOREST'S FORWARDS, BARRY LYONS AND DAVE HILLEY. LYONS SCORED THE SECOND FROM ANOTHER PENALTY.

IN THE SECOND HALF, NOTTINGHAM FOREST WERE IN COMMAND FOR THE GREATER PART OF PLAY AND WHEN THE THIRD GOAL CAME UP, SCORED BY DAVE HILLEY, THE HOME TEAM HAD TAKEN AN ALMOST INVINCIBLE HOLD ON THE MATCH. ONLY ONCE DID ALBION THREATEN THE HOME GOAL, ONLY A MINUTE BEFORE THE FINAL SIGNAL, WHEN DENNIS MARTIN FORCED A MAGNIFICENT SAVE FROM GOALKEEPER, ALAN HILL.

AFTER THE MATCH, WEST BROMWICH ALBION MANAGER, ALAN ASHMAN, DESCRIBED HIS TEAM'S EFFORTS AS A "POOR SHOW".
