Background: American evangelist Dr. Billy Graham has called on world leaders to cut their hostile rhetoric and get to know each other in order to reduce the danger of a world war. Dr. Graham was speaking at an international peace conference in Soviet capital, Moscow. The conference, organised by the Russian Orthodox Church, included delegates from many Christian denominations as well as non-Christians, such as Buddhists. It began on Monday (10 May). In his conference address, Dr. Graham asked world leaders from East and West to call a moratorium on hostile rhetoric. On Sunday (9 May), he attended a church service at Moscow's Baptist Church. Here he delivered a sermon calling on all to accept the life of Christ. Late, he went to Moscow's Russian Orthodox Cathedral, where the Patriarch of All Russia, Pimen (real name Sergei Mikhailovich Isekov), conducted the service. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Red Square. This was attended by Dr. Graham and Russian Orthodox leaders.
