Background: American Vice-President Gerald Ford told a meeting in New York on Monday (22 April) that he trusted the White House would give maximum co-operation and hand over Presidential tapes to the House Committee investigating the impeachment of President Nixon. Mr. Ford said this was the right course to follow. He said he thought President Nixon to be innocent of any impeachable offence. The tapes are under subpoena and carry a Thursday (25 April) deadline.
