Background: Although Switzerland managed not to be involved in any war for the last 109 years, it has to keep its army strong and efficient. Nowadays are concerned not the soldiers only but the entire population of a country. Swiss women were hard to convince to participate in civil defense exercises as they don't have the right to vote (in spite of the fact that they have to pay taxes).
However swiss cities, like Zurich (population 450.000), started to organize courses in civil defense. As our coverage shows they were quite successful: From all over the city housewifes as well as career-women got interested in the needs of active wartime civil defense and - by participating in these exercises - helped to demonstrate the swiss principle of well armed neutrality.
