"I am one of the local fishermen here, I am afraid the storm has taken all our boats away, three of mine, and many others, about fifteen altogether. Not only have the boats gone, but the whole harbour has gone and the approaches too. Even if we had the craft we wouldn't be able to use them."
SV Mrs. Ritch speaks:-
"We all of us took our furniture upstairs, not thinking it would go any higher than the first floor, and when it was up to our knees, we went too, we all went, the whole road went up to my friends' house, fortunately, because an hour or so later everything had gone, the house, (she cries over following words) all the houses went too & all we had in them."

"I arrived in Lynmouth early this morning to find that my home town is in complete devastation. I have lost four members of my family, & find that the people of Lynmouth are practically stunned; but I think they are putting forward a great face, & I do believe that Lynmouth will yet become the gallant little town that is was before."

"So we took them up to my friend's house who live higher."

"But we have nothing left; my friends & 2 sisters lost all their clothes, all gone to.... she cries."
