Background: A young Argentine has completed a trek carrying a massive cross from Mendoza in Argentina to Santiago, the capital of Chile. Sergio de Corso was protesting against what he called the belligerent attitudes of Argentina, Britain and Chile over the Falkland Islands. Senor de Corso, a devout Catholic and pacifist, hauled the 45 kilograms wooden cross for some 200 kilometres, which included rugged mountain terrain. His journey, which lasted 11 days, ended on Sunday (18 April) outside a children's hospital in Santiago. Police escorted Senor de Corso during part of his agonising ordeal.
