KOYANA: "Well you know, this decision to open embargoes and sanctions against South Africa has been made without Transkei, and people as such have decided to leave Transkei out, and therefore we are not party to those decisions. As of now we feel entitled to take any attitude we like. But things may change if in the final analysis this is the only way open, Transkei might well support these sanctions."



LEONHARDT: "Mr. Koyana, you have mentioned in your speech the possibility of Vietnam type of suffering in Southern Africa. Would you ever consider harbouring guerrillas against South Africa?"



KOYANA: "This is a matter again you know. I am not a soothsayer, I cannot say about the future. Things may so develop that this would be so, I do not know. We are a country of southern Africa and we belong to Africa, and when reason has gone in Africa we shall take the line that our neighbours and our brothers take in relation to questions of South Africa and questions of the world in general."



LEONHARDT: "How do you see this election in South Africa? What does it mean to you?"



KOYANA: "I think this result was expected, I thought it would be what it is, you know, but I feel it has given this government -- the present government of South Africa -- a complete mandate to push forward with a completely dramatic policy of change; change for the better, the change which everybody demands, which the world demands, which Transkei demands, you know, and they should use this mandate for that, and it is a tragedy of course, it is a shame that not half of the people of South Africa were participating in this election. And, I feel that one of the changes required is that all the people of South Africa -- black and white -- should in the next election be given an opportunity to participate into and to take part in the elections."
