SV Elvis answering newsmen's questions/"I mean if somebody can come up and make it, well, more the power to them, because I'm a boy glad of the success I've had. You know, I couldn't be envious of some other young or new guy that's trying to make it too, because, as the old saying goes, I've been down that road before. I have three pictures in a row to do"

SV Elvis speaking to newsmen at news conference/ "I hope they won't all be rock-and-roll pictures because I've made four already and you can only get away with that so long, I'm thinking in terms I'd like a little more of the serious rolls, because my ambition is to progress as an actor, which takes a long time and a lot of experience."
Background: The cry of "The King is dead, long live the King" rang from radio stations throughout the Western world on Tuesday (16 August) as news of the death of American rock singer Elvis Presley was announced. The singer, aged 42, was found unconscious at his home in the southern United States city of Memphis, Tennessee. In Europe, Radio Luxembourg took the unprecedented step of cancelling all commercials and replaced them with a special Elvis Presley programme while London's station, Capital Radio, played nothing but Presley records. The man nicknamed, Elvis the Pelvis because of his pelvic gyrations during performances, was born in January 1935, the son of a poor cotton farmer in the southern state of Tennessee. On his twelfth birthday his parents gave him a guitar, beginning one of the greatest show business careers in history....a career that was to earn the singer millions of dollars and make his name a household world throughout the world. During his twenty year career, Presley starred in more than 60 films and received 25 "Golden Discs" ....awarded for sales of more than one million copies. The English pop group, the Beatles, received fourteen such Golden Discs. The tall, dark, sleepy eyed American became a symbol of a generation throughout the western world with his slick backed hair and the young rebel characters he played in many of his early films. Riots often developed during his live performances as screaming women and girls attempted to touch their idol. He had recently been in and out of hospital with a variety of undisclosed illnesses. The official cause of his death was respiratory failure.
