ALI: "I'm going to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee; George can't hit what his eyes can't see. Now you see me, now you don't; you think you will, but I know you won't. This is going to be a good fight. Listen, I want to say that I plan to make this my last fight, and I'm going to shock the world. I think it's befitting that I go out of boxing like I came in. Ten years ago I beat Sonny Liston. Destroying another Sonny Liston, who idolised Sonny Liston, he jumps ropes like Sonny Liston. He walks like Sonny Liston. He walks about with a scaredy-cat face like Sonny Liston. He's awkward and slow and hits hard like Sonny Liston. And I think it's befitting that the 1974 stage couldn't be set no better than I retire this man just like I did Liston."

Background: In Zaire on Tuesday (15 October), former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Mohammed Ali forecast that he would defeat current World Heavy-weight Champion George Foreman in their forthcoming fight, just as he defeated Sonny Liston in 1964. Ali was speaking at a news conference held in the May 20th Stadium in Kinshasa, venue for the clash billed as the "fight of the Century", on 30 October.
The fight was originally planned for 25 September. But a cut to Foreman's right eye forced the postponement. At the press conference, Foreman told reporters that the wound had completely healed. He denied that he was at a psychological disadvantage as a result of the injury, the first the Champion has suffered in his boxing career.
The ???ntagonism between the two boxers was evident at the news conference. As the news conference ended, Ali made a playful attack on Foreman's spokesman which -- he said -- foreshadowed the attack he would make on Foreman himself on October 30.
Ali described in his usual, colourful fashion how the fight would progress. Some of him comments appear on film when Ali compares Foreman an earlier protaganist, Sonny Liston. A transcript follows:
